How to Get an Old Couch or Dresser Out of Your Home
The old couch usually comes to mind when the delivery truck for the new one is already on its way. Give yourself a little room on the calendar and take a quick look at the route out. The pickup is easier to plan when the crew knows what they’re walking into.
Show us the whole piece
Take one photo from across the room and another from the side. A sleeper sofa can weigh much more than a standard couch, and a sectional may split into pieces. If a dresser has a detachable mirror, mention whether that is going too.
Walk the route to the truck
Look for a tight turn at the top of the stairs, a screen door that doesn’t open all the way, or a long carry to the driveway. In a condo, check where the truck can load and whether you need to reserve an elevator. A photo of the narrowest part helps as much as a photo of the furniture.
Get clear on what’s going
Empty drawers and set aside anything you’re keeping. Leave heavy pieces where they are and tell the crew about their location. If the furniture is still in good condition, ask a donation organization what it accepts before arranging a pickup.
Plan the pickup before delivery day
Tell us when the new furniture is coming and whether there are any building access windows. We’ll confirm availability and review the scope and price before loading. See our furniture and appliance removal service or send photos for a quote.
