What to Do With a Big Pile of Yard Waste

The pile often looks manageable while you’re trimming. Then the branches spread across the driveway and the regular yard waste bin suddenly seems very small. Start by sorting the pile and checking what your regular service can take.

Keep brush separate from the rest

Group loose branches, palm fronds and other vegetation together. Set aside fencing, pots, bags, old landscape material and anything mixed in with the brush. Take a closer photo if the pile contains something hard to identify.

Check your regular collection first

Show the pile and the route

For a private haul, send a wide photo with something familiar for scale and one photo of the route to the loading area. Mention long limbs, a side gate, soft ground or a pile tucked behind a shed. Leave branches near wires or unstable trees to the appropriate utility or tree professional.
